Head
Start
Building Blocks to the 21st
Century
For over 40 years, Head Start has functioned as a family
antipoverty program providing opportunities for over 20 million
children and their families nationwide to develop self
confidence and basic skills for future success.
Head Start
provides a comprehensive program of health, education,
parent involvement, social services and services for children
with disabilities, all of which are coordinated with community
based service systems.
Early Head Start programs also include services to low income
families with infants and toddlers, and pregnant women.
Funding comes from a federal,
state and local sources. The Building
Blocks section outlines the many different services that
make up the Head Start program. These services are the
foundation of Head Start.
There's a complete breakdown of
Community Action Agencies throughout the state in the
Program
Listings area, including contact information.
Through a state-funded
Head Start Coordination program, the
Association provides technical assistance and training on
program standards to
Oklahoma's Head Start grantees. A five-year federally-funded Head
Start State
Collaboration project has focused on efforts to provide
low-income children access to comprehensive services, encourage
collaborative efforts, and promote Head Start involvement in development of
state plans and policies. Much more information
and statistics are available about the
Head Start program in this area. And these success
stories are all the proof you'll need to know that the Head
Start program really is making a difference in Oklahoma.
